FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Intentionality has become one of Enchanted Circle Theater’s guiding principles.  Deliberate, considered, eye-on-the-prize choices that lead us to purposeful action.

One intentional choice that became clear at our three-day strategic planning retreat a year ago, was that ECT absolutely needed to become a voice in the “national conversation” on arts integrated education.  That decision has led us to two exciting new affiliations.

ECT is now a member of the National Guild for Community Arts Education, an association of over 450 members, including the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Julliard, as well as individual artists and small organizations like ECT, involved in all aspects of educational, therapeutic and professional arts. We’ve attended two conferences so far, and have made meaningful connections that will likely lead to leadership roles in collaborative endeavors on a national scale.

This fall, I became a member of the Massachusetts Arts Education Advisory Council for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.  Our charge is to advise the Massachusetts Commissioner of Education on arts education related policy and pedagogy.  ECT's participation in statewide and national conversations has begun and, no surprise, we have a lot to say!

Just as noteworthy, every day our students (5th graders, preschoolers, adult learners, teen mothers) are making intentional decisions on how to present themselves on stage, what to write, how to revise what they wrote to make it say exactly what they want it to say, and how to advocate for themselves.

Intentional thinking leads to extraordinary experiences.

I wish you all the best for a healthy and happy holiday season,

Priscilla
