DANCE OF THE EARTH is an original play, written by former ECT artist Amy Hart, about the life of our planet earth. Throughout the course of the production, the stage becomes a science classroom, as a teacher and her students review for an upcoming earth science exam. As the students reluctantly become different parts of the earth, they become inspired by the magic of discovery and the forces, which are alive within our extraordinary planet.

From this exciting and unusual experience, the audience, and also the students in the class, see the Earth’s cycle of change unfold before their eyes. They explore how the Earth was formed, how the continents shift around the globe, why volcanoes and earthquakes are necessary for building the Earth, and how the forces of erosion wear it away.

The performance covers the Big Bang Theory, the Structure of the Planet Earth, Creation Myths and Cultures of the World, Volcanoes and Earthquakes, Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics and the Forces of Erosion. The accompanying teacher preparatory material includes map activities, crossword puzzles, a poetry writing exercise, and a template for creating your own in-class, performance-based presentation.

“Your performance of Dance of the Earth was one of the finest presentations for school audiences I have ever seen. For one hour, you had our students mesmerized…It was a perfect lesson!”
