About Enchanted Circle Theater

IMG_0249Enchanted Circle Theater (ECT) is a non-profit, educational theater company that has been engaging, enhancing, and inspiring learning through the arts since 1976. We are the regional leader in the field of arts integration, using theater arts as a dynamic teaching tool in the classroom, on the stage, and in the community.

Enchanted Circle serves an essential need in education today by fostering creativity and critical thinking. We bring the “joy back into learning.”  Our arts integration programs integrate theater arts – theater, dance, music, visual, media and literary arts – with academic and social curricula to improve academic achievement and support the development of social and emotional health. We work in schools, professional theaters, social service agencies, colleges and universities, with people of all ages and abilities.

Enchanted Circle Theater has earned area and national acclaim, performing in venues including the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston, the Amaturo Theater in Miami, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston, South Carolina. ECT was awarded the Commonwealth Award, Massachusetts’ highest honor in the arts, sciences and humanities, and the New England Public Radio award for Outstanding Organization in Arts and Humanities. ECT is a Community Partner with the Massachusetts Cultural Council and has received funding from the National Endowment for the Arts for our Institute for Arts Integration.

We teach students. In our artist-in-residence programs, students and teachers are immersed in the creative process of learning as they create and perform original works linked to their curriculum. Students have written and performed plays on themes such as the Civil War, the Industrial Revolution, Earth Science, Math in Everyday Life, and Life Sciences. Our arts integrated, project-based learning programs authentically align with each school’s Scope and Sequence Plan, the National Common Core, and the National Core Arts Standards.

We train teachers. Our comprehensive professional development programs focus on integrating the arts into the teaching strategies and curricula of PreK-12 teachers. We expand the capacity of teachers to integrate the arts into virtually every content area as a means to engage their students.

We perform. We are a professional theater company. We create and perform original plays on historical, cultural and socially relevant themes designed to engage, educate, and inspire our audiences.

We collaborate in our community. ECT works in partnership with social service agencies and youth development programs to integrate the arts with literacy and create socially relevant theater with young people to develop life skills through theater arts. We collaborate with over 45 community partners, developing innovative and original programs to address the needs of our most underserved and vulnerable community members.

“You bring the joy back into learning!” -Principal

” My students are developing a sense of community and “themselves” that without the experience of the theater would not be possible. I see my students grow and shine, and that means the world to me.”
