Kattye Soares joined Enchanted Circle as a teaching artist in 2019 and is active in both our school-based, after school and community-based arts integration programs. Her work with ECT is to enhance arts integration in education, using dance, storytelling and digital media. She has co-directed the 2020 Youth Truth prduction, an Enchanted Circle and Treehouse Foundation collaboration, involving 13 youth with foster care experience. Kattye utilized photography, videography, and creative writing as a tool for advocacy with the young people that became part of the final Youth Truth production.
She earned a B.S. in psychology and a B.F.A. in dance from Umass Amherst. In her studies out in Western Massachusetts, she became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, she was part of the RSO Latinos Unidos board for two years as the dance coordinator, she was a stage manager for a couple of dance shows in the college, and directed and choreographed her own show involving dancers from all five colleges and youth ages 5-18 residing at Treehouse Foundation, Easthampton MA. In her college research she measured the behavioral changes of six youth who had experienced foster care or adoption, and taught them dance while measuring the process of learning dance and movement to enhance self expression, emotional regulation, self awareness, self-confidence, social connection and community.
When in Los Angeles, California Katye participated as a principle dancer for the Mosaic Dance Company of California State University Dominguez Hills. Some of Kattye’s professional credits include, performing for Erphrat Asherie, Johnnie Mercer, Jeremy McQueen, Shakia Johnson, Amy Allen and others.
