This interactive workshop in designed to explore dramatic reading techniques with young children and their families in a fun and engaging format, aimed at encouraging families to read aloud together.

Blending children's literature with educational theater techniques, two artists from ENCHANTED CIRCLE THEATER lead the audience in an interactive, expressive reading adventure. The program begins with a staged reading of a heartwarming and entertaining story performed by two ECT artist/educators. This is followed by an engaging blend of theater games and expressive play to cajole all family members to become involved.

We have chosen theater games which focus on communication skills, imagination, and collaboration, and offer simple, yet effective techniques for reading aloud with expression. Movement exploration activities enhance whole-body awareness and explore non-verbal communication. Incorporating word association games and the opportunity for the audience to be theater directors, the artists enable participants to explore their own creative process. These activities evolve into a group performance, with parents and children becoming the readers, the actors and the sound effects crew.

The program ends with a final staged storybook reading by the professional ECT artists, incorporating the expressive reading techniques, and sharing their love of the written word.

WORKSHOP LENGTH: 45 minutes - 1 hour
