CREATIVE CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Conflicts happen. They are just a part of life. The question is: Are we actively learning to communicate with each other to create peaceful solutions?
This workshop is an introduction to and a deepening of conflict resolution skills. This is an opportunity to come together as a community of learners to explore conflict resolution techniques and theater games that are readily available for a variety of environments.
- Focusing on communication and mediation skills, participants will pursue ways of building safety and trust through dramatic movement and personal narrative structures.
- Theater Games which develop listening and empathy skills help participants experience varying perspectives.
- Improvisation and role playing mediation games help students create real life “win/win” solutions to everyday problems.
- Brainstorming exercises offer a wealth of possibilities for approaching any situation.
- Leadership training and team building methods delve into the responsibility of the individual who is part of a group.
- Relaxation and stress management exercises help us maintain our poise in the midst of chaos.
- Reflective writing as a tool for self discovery and authentic expression.
A Creative Conflict Resolution workshop can be taught as a single class, 90 minutes long, or as part of an Artist-in-Residence series. This workshop series was developed by Tracy Vernon and is recommended for grade 4 through adults.
