Reading Alive in Libraries
Reading Alive for the Whole Family
This interactive workshop explores dramatic reading techniques with young children and their families in a fun and engaging format aimed at encouraging families to read aloud together.
The program begins with a staged reading of a children’s book performed by two ECT artist educators. The reading is followed by an engaging blend of theater games and expressive play to engage everyone in the family.
The theater games focus on communication skills, imagination, and collaboration, and offer simple, yet effective techniques for reading aloud with expression. Movement exploration activities enhance whole-body awareness and explore non-verbal communication. The process culminates in a group performance, with parents and children taking on the roles of readers, actors and sound effects crew.
The program ends with a final staged storybook reading by ECT artist educators, incorporating expressive reading techniques, and sharing their love of the written word.
